Workout earbuds that check your heart
Beats, founded by Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine in 2006 and owned by Apple since 2014, launched Powerbeats Pro 2 on February 13, 2025. LeBron James, Lionel Messi and Shohei Ohtani starred in the launch campaign.
What’s special
They are the first Beats earbuds with heart-rate sensing, using optical sensors that pulse more than 100 times a second, and the first Powerbeats with active noise cancelling and Transparency mode. Apple’s H2 chip runs them, they are 20% lighter than before, sweat- and water-resistant (IPX4), and they charge wirelessly. Battery lasts up to 10 hours per bud and 45 with the case.
How it compares
Expert Reviews praised the secure fit, noise cancelling, battery and heart-rate feature, but noted Bose’s QC Ultra Earbuds cancel noise better.
Price and who it’s for
$249.99, and very popular, with more than 10,000 bought on Amazon in a month. They are for runners, lifters and athletes who want earbuds that stay put.
