John Mayer’s guitar, made affordable
The Silver Sky is John Mayer’s signature guitar from PRS Guitars, the company Paul Reed Smith founded. The American-made Silver Sky came first in 2018; the SE Silver Sky followed on January 11, 2022, bringing Mayer’s design to a much lower price.
What you get
It has a poplar body and a bolt-on maple neck, a 25.5-inch scale, 22 frets and a vintage-style 8.5-inch radius, with three 635JM single-coil pickups and a two-point vibrato. It’s made at PRS’s SE factory in Indonesia, and a maple-fretboard version arrived in 2023.
How it compares
Guitar World gave it five stars and called it the best PRS SE model its reviewer had played.
Price and who it’s for
It launched at $849 and sells for about $949 today. It’s for players who love the feel of a classic single-coil guitar and the sound of John Mayer.
