A whole Mac in five inches
The Mac mini is Apple’s smallest desktop: a 5-by-5-inch box you plug into your own screen, keyboard and mouse. Apple announced the M6 version on August 25, 2026, and it reached stores on September 22, alongside a more powerful M5 Pro model.
What’s inside
The M6 model has a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, 16GB of memory (up to 32GB) and 256GB of storage to start, with three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back. The M5 Pro model goes up to an 18-core CPU, 20-core GPU, 64GB of memory, 8TB of storage and Thunderbolt 5. Both add two USB-C ports and a headphone jack on the front, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet, and drive up to three displays.
Apple says the new mini is up to 40% faster on the CPU, with twice the graphics and up to four times the AI speed, compared with the M4 generation.
How it compares
Tom’s Guide gave it 4.5 stars and its Editor’s Choice, found the M6 beating the older M4 Pro in its benchmarks, ran Cyberpunk 2077 at about 60 frames per second at 1080p, and recommends it to people switching from Windows. The catch: Apple raised the starting price to $899.
Price and who it’s for
From $899 for the M6 and $1,699 for the M5 Pro, and Amazon has sold the M6 for around $779. It’s for students, home offices, creators and anyone who wants a fast, quiet Mac without paying for a built-in screen.
